Life Debt Tidbits – Issue 2

EA ‘Cancel’ Open World Star Wars Game

Well EA are at it again. After the whole Battlefront 2 controversy, followed by the cancellation of ‘Project Ragtag’ being overseen by Amy Hennig at Visceral Games, which from all reports looked to be a great game, which then went to EA Vancouver and was being retooled as an open world game AND NOW, according to various online sources, including Kotaku which you can read HERE, has been cancelled and will now be retooled into a smaller game which they are eyeing for a 2020 release. The article also states that this will not affect the release of Respawn’s ‘Star Wars – Jedi: Fallen Order’.

Honestly when will EA get it right? The first Battlefront from EA whilst enjoyable was lacklustre and relied on consumers paying double for the add-on content and with very little single-player content.

Then with Battlefront 2 which had release issue over micro-transactions. Luckily the game has evolved greatly since its release after EA worked out the kinks.

I get the feeling that once EA’s license is up on the franchise Lucasfilm will be looking to develop games elsewhere. When game franchises like Call of Duty and Battlefield (which is an EA franchise) can get new games out almost annually then why are they floundering with Star Wars? Will we see a reopening of Lucasarts? I hope so, having an in-house development team would certainly be less fraught than the EA situation.
