In the words of ‘Blue Harvest Podcast’, I’ve been doing some cockadoody speculating about season 2 of ‘The Mandalorian’, the reason for Moff Gideon’s obsession with The Child and perhaps even Ahsoka.
Let me paint you a picture, at the end of Season 4 of ‘Rebels’, Thrawn and Ezra we’re blasted not Hyperspace, most likely into The Unknown Regions.
As we have found out in the recent ‘Thrawn Trilogy’ and in the recent ‘Thrawn Ascendency’ book, The Unknown Regions are very difficult to navigate through Hyperspace and most ships use Force Sensitive navigators to help guide the ships through The Chaos.
As we have learned in other material, such as ‘The Aftermath Trilogy’, the Imperial Remnant went into The Unknown Regions where they eventually became The First Order.
What if…
Moff Gideon is actually looking for The Child to use to navigate his forces to the Imperial Remnant our in The Unknown Regions, rather than spend untold years searching the Region using smaller jumps to navigate. He may well already know about this method through Thrawn or perhaps has already attempted to navigate but wasn’t able but learned about Navigators from others.
This could explain why Gideon is seemingly desperate to get his hands on The Child, to finally reunite with The Empire. We’ve already been told by Faverau that we will see some of the origins of The First Order, where better to see that than where the organisation starts, out hiding in the far reaches of the Galaxy.
“But Jonny, what does this have to do with Ahsoka ?”
Good question. What if Ahsoka is interested in The Child for the same reason, except not to find The First Order, but to finally find Ezra, leaving Mando on his own for a while before The Child returns to him. That could tie into some of things said in the recent EW article that we were told that we would get some stories about other characters, but still giving us a character we are heavily invested in. Which would still allow any series focused on the search of Ezra to have a story to tell but also progresses the search.
We have already seen Mando before having The Child with him in the first episode of Season 1 and having some time with him alone would make for a great way to see how the character has changed during that time and how he copes on his own now.
Like I said, it’s all speculation and I’m probably completely wrong but it’s something to do until we get to 30th October.
