Balancing The Force 3: The Prophecy Conundrum

Thank you Claudia Grey! The inclusion of so many Jedi Prophecies in ‘Master and Apprentice’ has given us all a lot to think about, and with that thinking I’ve decided to try to decipher them here.

We learn in the novel that Count Dooku has an interest in the Prophecies, and interest he passed on to his first Padawan, Rael Aveross, who in turn passed the interest into Dooku’s second Apprentice, Qui-Gon Jinn whose interest far outweighed his masters.

Years later after having a vision of his own, Qui-Gon’s interest in the prophecies is re-ignited, and here they are, starting with an easy one…

‘When the kyber that is not kyber shines forth, the time of prophecy will be at hand.’

Why is this an easy one? Because this prophecy comes true during ‘Master and Apprentice’. During the coronation ceremony, after Fanry is revealed to be the mastermind of the central plot, Obi-Wan ignites his lightsaber, and rather it being the usual blue blade it’s orange, like the shields that were generated by the crystals discovered in the book that are similar to kyber crystals. Once this happens, according to this prophecy, many others will come to pass.

‘A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.’

The Chosen One prophecy in its entirety, and it sums Anakin up. He had no father, and Shmi even says that there “was no father” meaning immaculate conception, or created by the midichlorians. Now, depending on your interpretation of balance in the Force or the events of the Skywalker Saga you can interpret this prophecy in a few different ways. My belief is that through Anakin, the Skywalker Legacy was created, Luke and Leia were born and Leia had Ben, Ben turned to the Dark Side which meant another needed to ‘awaken’ which was Rey and through her and Ben in the Sequel Trilogy I believe the true balance will be restored.

‘One will ascend to the highest of the Jedi despite the foreboding of those who would serve with him.’

Anakin being put on the Jedi Council by Palpatine much?

‘She who will be born to darkness will give birth to darkness.’

This is obviously about Leia, being the daughter of Vader and giving birth to Ben, who becomes Kylo Ren. We already saw in ‘Empires End’ that she senses darkness around Ben before she gave birth to him.

Then we get into some grey areas with some of the prophecies, meaning I have ideas about their meaning but I’m pretty sure I’m wrong.

‘The danger of the past is not past, but sleeps in an egg. When the egg cracks, it will threaten the galaxy entire.”

All I can think of is the weird Force Egg thing in the first arc of the Poe Dameron comic series, which does happen prior to the events of ‘The Force Awakens’. But that’s a really, really long shot.

‘When the Force itself sickens past and future must split and combine.’

Say what??? I do wonder if this may be alluding to some of the rumours about ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ and the supposed flash fight between Rey and Kylo which Jason Ward wrote about HERE.

‘Only through the sacrifice of many Jedi will the Order cleanse the sin done to the nameless.’

This could be about Order 66 and the Jedi Purge, however what is the sin? You could say The Clone Wars but the ‘nameless’ seems not to mean the general population, instead it feels very specific. Could this be something we haven’t seen yet? Maybe something from ‘Project Luminous’?

‘He who learns to conquer death will through his greatest student live again.’

I have a theory about this one, and again it pertains to a rumour from Jason Ward HERE. Palpatine manages to possess Kylo, now I think that Palpatine has been possessing people since the destruction of the second Death Star, quite possibly Snoke from the moment it happened, it would explain Snoke’s theme which is reminiscent of the Emperor’s theme from ‘Return of the Jedi’ and how he quickly rose to prominence in the First Order and it’s been revealed that Snoke trained one other Apprentice before Kylo, but Kylo became his most gifted Apprentice who fell wholeheartedly for the manipulations of his Master, and according to the rumour, Palpatine possesses Kylo before Rey kills him, leaving the spirit of Palpatine to fade because of no other Dark Side users available for him to control.

Whether or not we find out what they all mean, the speculation is great fun, but only when done responsibly.
