Star Wars Battlefront 2 – Mission 8: Under Covered Skies

As I have recently gotten back into gaming after getting a new XBox One S I’ve gone and gotten back into Battlefront 2 in a big bad way.

There will be spoilers for the game so be warned if you haven’t played it yet.

The result of this is I will now do some writing about each of the levels as I make my way through the game. This time I will go through Mission 8 – Under Covered Skies.

The Premise – After receiving intel that Hask is running an Imperial Operation on Bespin, Iden and Del make their way to capture their former colleague. After piloting their X-Wings to the station under the cloud cover they encounter a squad of Imperials. Once the squad is defeated Iden and Del don Stormtrooper armour to infiltrate Hask’s Base of operations.

When they reach the tower and enter Hask’s office, the Imperial Commander sends them a transmission as he escapes in his Star Destroyer.

Iden and Del battle their way through an onslaught of Imperials, including an AT-ST to reach a landing platform but all the TIE Fighters leave before they can steal any. Instead they take a Cloud Car to complete another part of their mission, destroy an Imperial Fuel Station.

Using the Cloud Car to arrive undetected they destroy the fuel cells on the station which blows it up and the three Star Destroyers that are being refuelled.

The Gameplay – Slow at first, flying in X-Wings under cover following a path created by Del’s ship. Once you land you get a great battle scenario before a walking and talking section. The second ground battle is intense and a lot of fun, lots of enemies appear and just when you think it’s safe more appear on the landing platform.

The air combat is great fun, especially piloting a non-conventional vehicle which doesn’t have any secondary weapons. You can choose to focus on the task of destroying the fuel cells or if you are feeling particularly brave you can take on the TIE Fighters as well.

Easter Eggs – This is set roughly six months after Iden and Del join the Rebellion/New Republic, whilst Bespin is still under Imperial rule and will remain that way for a little while longer until Lando leads a group of soldiers and take back the planet which we see in Star Wars: Aftermath – Empire’s End.

It’s one of my favourite levels, sure I’m bored of the walking and talking sections but the battle scenarios are great fun and make the slow moments worth it, sometimes you need a breather whilst fighting off the Empire.
