Star Wars Battlefront 2 – Mission 6: Royalty

As I have recently gotten back into gaming after getting a new XBox One S this past week I’ve gone and gotten back into Battlefront 2 in a big bad way.

There will be spoilers for the game so be warned if you haven’t played it yet.

The result of this is I will now do some writing about each of the levels as I make my way through the game. This time I will go through Mission 6 – Royalty.

The Premise – After the destruction of Operation Cinder, Princess Leia and Danger Squadron (Shriv, Iden and Del) attempt to reactivate a weapons system that was installed in Theed prior to the Clone Wars.

As Leia, your job is to lead Del through the city and protect him from Imperial troops as he uses his technical know-how to reactivate the weapons systems whilst Shriv and Iden do the same on the opposite side of the city.

The heroes meet up again outside the Palace and fend off the Imperials long enough for all the New Republic forces to get inside where the weapon won’t affect them.

Once inside the weapon, a city-wide Ion Blast goes off, shutting down all of the Imperials weapons and vehicles, allowing the New Republic to win the day.

Gameplay- Much like the Luke Skywalker mission the perspective is set in third person. The Leia character model looks much better than the Luke one and Misty Lee does a great job at the voice of a younger Leia. The character is well written and doesn’t feel like the writers have tried to hard to make her feel like Princess Leia.

Easter Eggs – Theed, the capital of Naboo featured in all three Prequel films and in a shot in the celebration scene in the DVD and Blu-Ray versions of Return of the Jedi, is the setting of this mission and the designers have nailed the aesthetic from all of the previous material. The Ion Blast weapon was created after the Battle of Naboo in ‘The Phantom Menace’ when the Droid Army of the Trade Federation occupied the city.

As far as the ‘hero’ levels go this is my favourite, even though they all feel like they have been shoehorned into the game to placate the fans. The mission feels like a logical continuation of the previous mission and it’s fun to play as Leia.
