Three more years! Three more years! Kathleen Kennedy has extended her contract as head of Lucasfilm until 2021!!!
That’ll show the haters who think Kathleen Kennedy is doing a bad job running Lucasfilm.
From the day it was announced that George Lucas had hired her as his replacement as the head of the company I, and may others have believe she was the best choice.
Her resume speaks for itself, her name is synonymous with my childhood. I was raised on Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, The Goonies, Jurassic Park and many more. For her to take over the company responsible for Star Wars, another staple of that era of cinema it made perfect sense.
Once Disney bought the company and she took the reigns she has shepherded in the golden age of Star Wars. The Universe is all under one banner and I honestly think it’s for the better, but this isn’t an EU vs Canon debate. Kennedy has made some great decisions, who else but J.J. Abrams has the balls to take on the first part of the Sequel Trilogy and he was the top choice on everyone’s mind. He made a Star Wars film before but it was called Star Trek. She has opened up the Star Wars franchise to new cinematic stories beyond the Saga films and the two entries under the ‘A Star Wars Story’ banner have been fantastic films. And don’t get me started on my love of Rian Johnson and The Last Jedi.
Of course she has made some tough choices, replacing Gareth Edwards during the Rogue One reshoots, the firing of Phil Lord and Chris Miller during the filming of Solo and removing Colin Treverow (although I consider this to be a good decision) as Director of Episode IX. But these decisions were made to serve the stories the films were telling.
And we have already had announcements of the future of the franchise with Rian Johnson’s upcoming trilogy and the series of films from the Game of Thrones show-runners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss.
Not only have the Star Wars films thrived under her watchful eye but thanks to her we are finally getting a live action series and have had two new animated series, ‘Rebels’ and the recently premiered ‘Resistance’ AND the upcoming revival of the beloved Clone Wars series. Lucas put Star Wars on the map in 1977 and held it firm until 2012 but Kathleen Kennedy has her eyes set on the stars for our beloved franchise and is showing no signs of slowing down.
She has brought us a fantastic six years and here’s looking forward to three more and hopefully beyond 2021.
